EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE EFFECTS OF SIKYUNGCHUNGPAETANG AND SIKYUNGBANHATANG ON XYLENE INDUCED PULMONARY EDEMA IN RATS

Abstract
In order to investigate experimentally the clinical effects of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang, experimental studies were done on Xylene induced Pulmonary Edema in rats.
The results of the studies were summerized as follows;
1) The each solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang revealed significant effect on decrease the lung weight in pulmonary edema of the rats. Compared with two group, especially the solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang showed more singificantly than Sikyungbanhatang.
2) The each solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang revealed significant effect on increase the arterial oxygen tension (PO,) in pulmonary edema in rats, compared with two group especially the solid extract. of Sikyungchungpaetang showed more significantly than Sikyungbanhatang.
3) The each solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang revealed significant effect on decrease the arterial canon dioxide tension (PCO,) in pulmonary edema in the rats, compared with two group especially the extract of Sikyungchungpaetang showed more significantly than Sikyungbanhatang.
4) The each solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang revealed feeble effect on increase th blood pH in pulmonary edema of the rats.
5) The each solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang revealed significant effect on decrease the blood pressure in pulmonary edema of the rats.
6) The each solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang revealed significant effect on decrease the heart rate in pulmonary edema of the rats, compared with two group especially the solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang shmved more significantly than
Sikyungbanhatang.
According to the above findings, it was suggested that the each solid extract of Sikyungchungpaetang and Sikyungbanhatang retain alike effectiveness, but the former retains more effectiveness on the treatment of pulmonary edema compared with the latter, and that the effects of them based on oriental medical references are consistent with the actual experimental effects.
